I finally got my hands on the Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler, and I wanted to share a quick first impression on my experience with the handheld device used to dry and style hair.
But first, if you have not had the opportunity to read my introduction to What is 4c Nappy Hair? I would strongly encourage you to visit that post to gain insight on my hair journey over the last decade.
I am clearly late to the hype: the Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler has been on the market for at least three years now!
The One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler was one of the most affordable, innovative heat styling tools to make its debut in the Natural Hair community over the years. It was essentially a game changer.
Some of your favorite YouTube naturalistas such as NaturalNeiicey, Chizi Duru, Naptural85, NappyFu, and many more have put the hand held device to the test, and have shared their thoughts, which were relatively positive reviews, collectively.
WHY THE REVLON PRO COLLECTION SALON ONE-STEP HAIR DRYER AND STYLER
The Determining Factor
Although the reviews of others aided in my decision to purchase the dryer, it was not the ultimate determining factor.
The last time a heating tool was applied to my hair was back in 2016 (and never again — however, I did attempt to straighten my hair with an clothing iron, but that was an epic fail, so that does not count). However, after years of eliminating heat styling tools from my hair care – to avoid heat damage, I decided to give in and purchase the Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler for increased hair manageability.
Let there be no mistake, I have reviewed phenomenal products on my platform which have contributed to my hair’s manageability in comparison to the beginning stages of my hair journey.
However, being that I have extremely kinky and tight coily textured hair, I struggle with the puffy roots (you would think it was matted based on how tightly coiled my hair texture is). And because of that I ordered the dryer with the intent to achieve a smoother finish from roots (the focal point) to ends.
Now, let us delve right into how this raved about heat styling tool worked for moi, shall we?

The Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler is recognized for its ionic technology with maximum drying power.
The ionic technology refers to molecules (ions) with a positive or negative charge. The negative ions are necessary in blow dryers and other heating styling tools as they help to maintain a neutral charge on the hair’s surface.
Negative ions aid rapidly to break up water molecules, reducing drying time, and to close the hair cuticle; leaving the hair looking conditioned and smooth, while minimizing frizz and static for an overall healthy, soft and shiny hair.

my first impression
with the Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Style
If I am being completely honest, I set my expectations too high. Those expectations were solely influenced by the overwhelmingly positive reviews from other users. In this section of my first impression, I am going to lightly touch on four areas; the paddle design, comfort, multiple heat settings, and the detangling bristles.
-
Design
Firstly, I can appreciate the innovativeness of the large paddle design: it is simple, black with a hot pink accent, resembling a detangling brush – with the expectation of the vents which release heat for drying purposes. However, if you are someone like me, who does not use a brush to detangle hair, you will have reservations about handling the device.
-
Comfort
The One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler at first glance intimated me with regards to its size; it comes across as a hefty device due its broad handle. However, the device is fairly lightweight.
In a matter of opinion, I did not find the dry comfortable to use – mainly due to its wide handle and the large paddle brush.
-
MULTIPLE SETTINGS
Granted that the One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler received relatively positive feedback, a concern that most users had was the settings on the device.
The dryer provides three settings; cool, low, and high. With no medium heat setting to select, some users had stated when using the dryer on high, the device would get extremely hot – which could potentially result in heat damage, if not careful. Whereas, the low setting did not allow for maximum drying power at a reduced drying time.
-
LOW HEAT SETTING
I have a fine and low to medium density hair; therefore, out of the two heating settings available, I opted for the low heat setting.
I did test out the high heat setting, but that was short-lived as the heat was too intense for my hair, and I did not want to put my hair at risk of heat damage
Having the option to select a medium heat setting would have been beneficial for me; as it would have ensured maximum drying power without over-drying and damaging my hair at a reduced time.
-
Detangling bRISTLES
I am not certain if there is a specific hand technique when detangling textured hair with a large paddle bristle brush, but I experienced a lot of snagging and pulling of the hair with the dryer.
My scalp is fairly tender, and applying the low heat setting did not cut the drying time in half; instead it consisted of more snagging and hair pulling. The drying time took at least an hour and a half for me, and even then, my roots did not smooth out nor did my hair completely dry.
Final Thoughts
I am not impressed with how the One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler worked for me. The drying process took longer than anticipated (on the low heat setting), the constant snagging and pulling of the bristle caused me to lose a lot of hair during the process, and most importantly, I did not achieve the smooth finished look from roots to end that I had hoped for.
However, I will not entirely put the blame on the dryer, I am sure my lack of experience in handling a large paddle bristle brush on my extremely kinky and tight coily textured hair contributed to my unfortunate experience.
Nevertheless, I have every intent to give Revlon Pro Collection Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Styler another try; however, if I am not successful in achieving a smooth finished blowout from roots to ends, I am prepared to give the handheld device to my mother.
