In today’s post, I have decided to share my skincare routine because, why not? I have featured a few skincare products on this platform that I have enjoyed using and new products that I have implemented recently to my skincare routine. I thought it would be fitting to break down step-by-step my simple nighttime skincare routine, highlighting some of the products I use and the order in which I layer them.
Nighttime Skincare Routine
(As of Current)
1. Wash Your Hands
I always wash my hands before I proceed with my skincare routine.
2. Rinse
With lukewarm water, I rinse my face prior to applying a cleanser.
3. Cleanse
Using Burt’s Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream, I apply a coin-sized amount onto my fingertips and then apply the cleanser to my face and neck, massaging for one or two minutes in a circular motion to clean and remove impurities.
4. Rinse
I thoroughly rinse cleanser with cool or lukewarm water.
*Optional* On nights I want to show myself more tender loving care, I will face steam for approximately 5-10 minutes, and then rinse with cool water.
5. Exfoliate
(1-2 Times/Week)
The number of times per week that I exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells from the surface of my skin depends on the product I use. Once per week, I use The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA (chemical exfoliant) and twice per week I use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant (both physical and chemical exfoliant).
6. Pat Face Dry
Using a face cloth, I pat my face dry.
7. Facial masks
(As desired)
Facial masks are a luxury step in my nighttime skincare routine. Using The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque, I apply when desired to relax, destress and/or pamper myself. I apply the mask evenly on clean, dry skin using my fingertips, and leave it on for no more than 10 minutes. Then, I rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
8. Toner
(Water-based)
I then saturate a cotton pad with The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution and apply it to my face and neck to hydrate and balance the skin’s pH.
9. Serum
(Water-based)
Next, I follow-up with a treatment, The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, to target some of my skin concerns, i.e. unevenness, hyperpigmentation, texture, and hydration. I apply 2-3 drops to the entire face and then carry on with my final step.
10. Moisturize
(anhydrous)
To complete my skincare nighttime routine, I apply 2-3 drops of The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Sqaulane or Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%, pressing the product onto my face and neck to help my skin absorb it, and then moisturize my lips with good ol’ vaseline.
Finally, bedtime. Goodnight!
xo.
