I thought it would be fun to do a natural hair tag on my blog. I’ve seen a lot of YouTubers in the natural hair community do this, and I thought – ‘why not?’ Although, I am not a YouTuber, and have not worked up the confidence to record myself and speak in front of a camera, I still figured that using this platform would be just as effective. I will be answering these 20 questions prompted by youtubetagsxx from Tumblr.
The Questions (20):

1. Why did you star t taking be tter care of your hair?
The reason why I made the decision to start taking better care of my hair was because my hair ran out of lives; it was destroyed, lifeless – dead! The natural hair community on YouTube was my saving grace. Inspired by many YouTubers’ hair journey, and developing an understanding of basic hair care for textured hair, really moved me to take responsibility of my own hair.
2. What are you two favourite hair products?
My two favorite hair products would have to be Camille Rose Naturals (1) Algae Renew Deep Conditioner and (2) Moisture Butter Curlaide Green Tea & Jojoba. As of current, it has been impossible to get my hands on Algae Renew Deep Conditioner in Edmonton; therefore, I have switched over to Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Masque
3. Whose hair did you admire as a child?
Barbie. It’s the truth and I know some can relate.
4. What is your ultimate goal length?
Bra strap length. However, length is not a priority for me anymore, the health of my hair is. Length comes as a bonus.
5. How are you going to celebrate when you reach your ultimate goal length?
If I happen to reach my ultimate goal length I would celebrate by ordering a box of pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. Pizza never disappoints.
6. Two styles you want to try at your goal length?
Two styles I would like to try are: 1) Goddess braids and 2) a Flexi Rod set.
7. Which do you prefer: Heal thor length?
Health over length any day! A lengthy hair is a byproduct of a healthy hair.
8. Which do you prefer: hair ties with no metal parts or butterfly clips?
I prefer hair ties with no metal parts. My signature hairstyle will not work with butterfly clips (no, no).
9. What products do you prefer: salon brands, organic brands, BSS brands, drugstore brands or other?
Assuming that BSS stands for Beauty Supply Store (lol), I would say BSS brands because that is where I purchase a majority of my hair products from.
10. Which product/ technique do you think is overrated?
I can name a list of techniques that I think are overrated, simply because they have not worked for me; one being a wash ’n’ go.
11. Which product/ technique do you think is underrated?
Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO). There was a point in time when everyone would rave about JBCO for its hair growth and thickening properties, but eventually that died down. I’m assuming individuals were not getting the results they anticipated. It is very rare for someone to suggest using castor oil for hair growth and thickness. Nowadays, individuals are resorting to other products, methods or even formulating their own concoctions to achieve results. Well, I am here to say, JBCO works. Just like everything in life; it requires patience and consistency.
12. What is your favourite part of your hair regimen?
My favorite part of my hair regimen is sitting under a heating cap. The Lord knows wash days are no joke!
13. What is the most annoying part of your hair regimen?
The most annoying part of my hair regimen would have to be detangling. If you know, YOU KNOW!
14. Oils or butters?
Hm, oils. Just because some butters are more of a miss than a hit when applied to my hair. Also, no matter what, you will always find oil(s) in a household – kitchen cupboard.
15. Buns or pony tails?
Buns! I love a sleek low bun with a middle part (it is my signature style).
16. Wigs or weaves?
Neither. However, if I had to choose, I would prefer wigs. With wigs there is no commitment; you have the flexibility to wear your natural hair out and let it breath. And most importantly, maintain your hair care regimen.
17. A t what length do you consider hair long?
If you can catch your hair up in a ponytail, your hair is long. Period.
18. When is the last time you visited a salon?
November 26, 2016 (R.I.P).
19. What do you like to surf most often: Youtube channels, personal blogs, or hair forums?
YouTube channels: I live vicariously through those I’m subscribed to.
20. What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out their hair journey?
It is all trial and error; do not expect to achieve the same results as someone else. I always say, what may work for others may not necessarily work for you. Experiment; test out products and various styles, give products a chance to work before trying something new. Create a simple regimen that works for you; be attentive to your hair needs and incorporate steps into your regimen, as needed. Accept the fact that you will encounter bad hair days, and that is normal (just wrap your hair in a headscarf and you are good to go). And last but not least, embrace who you are – hair and all. Remember, your hair does not define you as a person. I believe your heart does; so, stay true to who you are and spread the love.
And that concludes my natural hair tag!
Tag, you’re it!
