This is part two of my Hair Review: Amazing Beauty Hair series! If you have not read part one, check out my Amazing Beauty Hair (Extensions): Hair Review Series: Unboxing/First Impression where I covered everything you need to know from the hair company, Amazing Beauty Hair, to my first impression on the Afro Kinky Curly clip-in extensions.
In this part of the series, I want to quickly rundown how I prepped (products included) the clip-in extensions prior to the installation, and share my thoughts after the washing process.
It is safe to say, curly textured hair requires A LOT of maintenance, and that is the reality of it. But, it hits a little different when it is curly hair that you have monetarily invested in. Therefore, if you are looking to invest in high-quality hair, be prepared to give your hair (yes, I said, your hair. We have all heard that saying, “If I bought it then it’s mine!”) some much needed tender loving care (TLC) as you would with your natural hair; to extend the longevity and keep your hair (whether it is a weave, wig/lace wig, clip-in extensions, etc.) looking fresh at all times.
Washing
In my previous post, I mentioned that Amazing Beauty Hair included a “Thank You” postcard with the instructions on washing and daily care of the extensions. Being that the hair is in its “virgin” state — straight out of the packaging with no products applied, I followed the instructions as follows:
STEP 1:
Detangle
First, I saturated each section in pairs of two with warm water — to open the hair cuticle. Using my fingers I began to detangle the hair under running water — to remove any shed hair.
STEP 2:
Shampoo
With the cuticles open, the shampoo can penetrate into the hair. I lathered a generous amount of Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Hydrating- Clarifying shampoo working it into the hair in a downward motion —removing any impurities from the hair, and then rinsed out all the shampoo.
STEP 3:
Apply Conditioner
Next, I applied Aussie Miracle Moist conditioner by holding the hair from the weft in one hand and evenly distributing the conditioner in the other — coating each strand, and racking my fingers through for shedding. After letting the conditioner set, I then went in with a wide-tooth comb —detangling from the ends of the hair to the weft.
STEP 4:
Rinse
After detangling for the final time, I rinsed out all the conditioner with cool water to seal the hair cuticle.
STEP 5 (Optional):
Repeat Steps 1-4
STEP 6:
Air Dry
Finally, I laid out the extensions to air-dry overnight.
my thoughts
During the washing process, I did experience some shedding – but what hair does not shed? What I appreciate about Amazing Beauty Hair, is that they advise customers of possible shedding due to the construction of the extensions. The shedding I endured was minimal — especially considering I washed two sets of extensions; a total of 14 clip-ins.
Note: you can prevent this by sealing the weft — you can find hair sealant at your local beauty supply store.
Asides from that, the hair felt super soft and hydrated — no tangles, knots, or frizz. The odour that I had mentioned in My First Impression was masked by the products I applied throughout the washing process. Although there were no significant changes to the hair, it did stretch out a little bit; however, it still retained its elasticity and definition.
Overall, the washing process was straightforward: no complaints. The quality of the extensions seems good so far. With that being said, I will leave it at that and will return with a One Month Post/Final Review on Amazing Beauty Hair – Afro Kinky Curly clip-in extensions.
until then, I am on vacation!
